Prince Edward Islanders are giving people... the Fraser's Institute's 2010 generosity index revealed that a higher percentage of Prince Edward Island tax filers gave to charity than any other province or territory in Canada. Frequently, we see how PEI residents react when someone is in need de to sickness, fire, accident, or other tragedies. They step up to the plate and give. They are role models for giving and they're in good company. The greatest giver of all times is our Heavenly Father. One New Testament writer put it this way, "for God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." What a gift that was! Have you received it?

North Americans love their "stuff". Sometimes too much. This has resulted in popularity of reality TV shoes such as "Pawn Stars", "American Pickers", "Storage Wars", and of course, the grandfather of all collecting shows, "Antique Road Show". Succumbing to the lure of the treasure hunt, many people are hoping to make a fortune from some treasure inherited from grandmother's attic.

But the greatest treasure is never found in stuff, antiques, collectibles, or riches. Paul the Apostle, writing in the New Testament, put it this way, "My purpose is that they may know the mystery of God, name Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

And Jesus warned, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth... but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven." That's because in Christ, when we are properly related to Him by faith, we have forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. That is the greatest treasure anyone could ever find. Have you found it? If I can help in your search, feel free to contact me.

Have you spent much time lately watching the splendor of the "Milky Way" splashed across the night sky? Have you seen any of the celestial wonders above? If you are fortunate enough to live in a rural area, these sights are available on any clear night. But many folks who live in the large urban areas are not so privileged. The artificial lights of the city area distract the eye and make it difficult or impossible to see the night sky. Street lights, store lights, apartment buildings, high rise offices, automobiles, all distract the eye.

So it is with our lives. Often the cares of this life, our ambitions, goals, careers and other things so distract us that we do not look up. Jesus once said, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life."

I encourage you to look away from this world. Look up, or as a gospel song suggests:
"Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth
Will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace."

A Montreal dog which disappeared last year has miraculously turned up in Kamloops, BC. It is not known if the black lab travelled some 4,500 kilometers herself, whether she hitched a ride with someone, or if she was taken by somebody. This will remain a mystery. But her owners in Montreal don't really care. They are glad to have her back.

The Bible tells a story of a son who had enough of home and travelled to a far country. After he had wasted his money with the partying crowd, he found work with a farmer, tending pigs. Finally, half starved, he made a resolution. He said, "I will arise and go to my father." The man was received with open arms by his father and returned to his former status. I refer to the prodigal son.

He heavenly Father has prepared the way back. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. It is not necessary for anyone to live in the far country. The old gospel song invites us, "Come home, ye who are weary, come home. Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling. Calling, oh sinner, come home."

A Holocaust survivor has donated a jacket she wore while imprisoned at Auschwitz Concentration Camp to a Montreal museum. Imy (Irma) Nemenoff-Gellert and her husband were sent to the camps in 1944. Her husband was killed but she was selected to work.

After the war, Irma came to Canada to rebuild her life. We can only imagine the pain of her life, but she survived and on her 97th birthday, donated the jacket to the museum.

Perhaps you, like Imy, are carrying scars and memories from your past life. One of the Psalms in the Old Testament tells us "The Lord heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds." And elsewhere, "The Lord is close to the broken-hearted."  Jesus once said, "Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest."  He is the only one Who can heal our brokenness and deal with our past.

If your heart has been broken or if you have scars from the past, I urge you to reach out to Him today.

People in Kinston, North Caroline, believe they see a likeness of Jesus on the cross in a growth of invasive vine called "kudzu" growing on a utility pole. This is but another in the many similar stories of imagined viewings of jesus in unusual places.

It's not very likely that the Lord would leave an image of Himself on the cross on a utility pole, entwined with an invasive vine.  It seems that man is obsessed with finding out what Jesus looked like when He was on earth. But the Bible is the only place where we can see the Lord as He really is.

He is the Son of God, the True Light, Prince of Peace, the Saviour. But many are reluctant to search the scriptures, preferring visions and making their own gods. They are forgetting that some day every knee shall bow before Him and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  Have you done that yet?

Much is being said these days in favour of legalizing the non-medical use of marijuana. Its use is widespread.

Users and sympathizers should be aware that it is not an innocent drug as some would have us believe. In addition to the fact that marijuana causes damage to the cells in the human body and also irreversible damage to the brain, marijuana adversely affects the reproductive process in a number of dramatic ways which can include impotence.

Marijuana smoke or marijuana mixed with tobacco is far more dangerous to the lung tissues than tobacco smoke alone. Preliminary reports suggest that marijuana would be far more likely to cause cancer than tobacco.  Individuals should think about the indisputable facts the next time they use marijuana.

The peace and satisfaction they are seeking when they smoke this drug will always elude them. They will never have enough. The answer is to turn their lives over to the Lord Jesus. When they do, the peace that passes all understanding will keep their hearts and minds.

A man who was a regular listener to my radio spots got mad at me, for a while. Then he told me of this incident.

He said because he was a member of a certain church, he resented the fact that I had said on radio that the only kind of a Christian that is a real Christian is a born-again Christian. He said he had related my words to his wife, a member of the same church. To his surprise, she then told him that what I had said was true and she referred him to John, Chapter 3, where Jesus said, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."

This same man then changed his mind about my saying the only kind of Christian that is a real Christian is one who is born again. I was pleased to hear the man tell me his story, because it reveals that there are still folks who want to know what is the truth and who will accept it when they hear it.

By the say, the only kind of Christian there really is, is a born again Christian. Would you like to know how to become a born again Christian? If I can help, please feel free to contact me. I'd be glad to help.

We are living in a world torn by lawlessness, war, famines, and pestilence on a scale never before seen in the history of the world. There are many sign posts in the world today which indicate the second coming of Christ may not be very far away.

However, the greatest signs of all are the events transpiring in the Middle East. The Bible repeatedly prophesied that Israel would one day return to the Land of Palestine. Astonishingly at the turn of the 20th Century, the Jewish people were scattered all over the world. There was no Nation of Israel. And then, the Jewish people began to come to their land by the thousands, and on May 14, 1948, the Nation of Israel was born, just as God had promised.

As He kept His promise concerning the re-birth of Israel, so He will concerning the return of Christ. While no man knows the day nor the hour of His return, the Bible says He will come again to earth to introduce a new order. Are you ready for that next great event in the history of the world? You can be!
